PILATES

Pilates Exercise

"Change happens through movement and movement heals."
                             -Joseph Pilates

What is Pilates?

Developed by Joseph Pilates during the 1920's, the Pilates Method  develops the body through muscular effort that stems from the core. Popular among dancers, the technique cultivates an awareness of the body to support everyday movements that are efficient and graceful, while improving posture and balance through core strengthening exercises.  Pilates targets the "powerhouse" muscles, which include the glutes, pelvic floor, hips, and lower back. Similar to yoga, the Pilates Method encourages deep, conscious breathing and mind-body connection. Pilates is widely used in rehabilitation settings but benefits elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike!

Our Mat Pilates program offer a variety of powerful, full body classes, focusing on form, strength, endurance and precision.

Pilates Reformer

Reformer Pilates combines the traditional principals and movements of Mat Pilates with a Reformer machine. During your session, you may find yourself in many positions, like laying down, sitting and standing on the Reformer machine, to pushing the foot bar and pulling the straps.
Each exercise is performed as a slow, controlled movement, that utilizes the entire body to improve your muscle tone, strength and posture.
